easing from the nest

Rain, damp, and cold kept me indoors today, away from the garden planting, weeding, and house painting that have been the primary focus of my days of late. Much of my attention was still drawn outside, though from behind one of our kitchen windows, as I watched a mama mockingbird guide these three youngsters to our feeders. Still finding their wings and learning their way in this world, the three stayed close together, squawking for their mother as she left them to gather seeds and suet and insects. The bravest ventured to the feeders but didn’t quite figure out exactly how they worked. No doubt in another day or so, all three will get the hang of it. 🙂
