gratitude sunday

gratitude β€” the state of being grateful : thankfulness

On this Gratitude Sunday, I am grateful for:

  • These wonderful two weeks of holiday I’ve just had; I am not sorry to return to work and a “normal” life tomorrow, as I feel as though I’ve spent this time well, reflecting and planning, celebrating and recharging, playing and resting — exactly what I vacation is supposed to be
  • Welcoming 2014 with my husband, jazz from Lincoln Center on the radio, savory crostini, and a bottle of Moet & Chandon (a rare but worthwhile splurge)
  • Catching up on my book reading — I read a lot because of the nature of my work (~200-300 pages every week) and as a result I don’t read as much for pleasure as I would like to; this is my one “resolution” for 2014, to read at least 30 minutes a day
  • Having a second Christmas with my parents and sister and niece last Sunday — always fun to hang out with these special people πŸ™‚
  • The road crews who work hard and at all hours to make sure we can travel safely during the winter months if we need to
  • Enjoying an amazing performance by Leon Russell and his band Friday night, as well as the great opening act, Hellbound Glory — fantastic, skillful musical masters and so much fun, too! (And the black bean burger I had for dinner was pretty special as well)
  • I rarely drink, so it’s strange for me to make two alcohol references in one post, but on supercold nights, of which we’ve had a few this week, a chupito-sized glass of good bourbon is a beautiful thing πŸ™‚
  • Playing with our dogs in the snow, especially Bayliss, who will be 15 in March — I love that she still enjoys this as much as she did as a pup; she may not run these days, but her smiling eyes and sweeping tail wags as she strolls through the white stuff say it all
  • James taking the time a couple weeks ago to cut extra wood for our stove — it has really come in handy the past few days
  • Celebrating my six-year “vegetarianniversary” this week; what we eat is a personal decision that everyone must make for him/herself, but for me, vegetarianism was the right choice for sure πŸ™‚
  • The male pheasant is still visiting our bird feeder; we hadn’t seen him for several days, but he made an appearance, in all his handsome glory, this morning
  • I woke up this morning feeling like I had a cold coming on, but the echinacea tea and extra vitamin C seem to have warded it off, which makes me very happy indeed

  1. What a lovely list. We have a 13 year old dog. She has a harder time getting around now but we love it when she gets “frisky”. Such a joy to see that she is still happy. I hope you have a lovely week!

    • Thank you! Bayliss has arthritis, but we’ve been able to manage it thus far with supplements and exercise. She is also strong willed and has a healthy appetite, which serve her well. It can be tricky when they reach their geriatric years, but we are even more grateful for every happy day we have with her. All the best to you and your pup!

  2. The list is not really a list is it? it is a way of sharing the many blessings you have been given. Thank you for sharing it with me today… m.b.
