finding home

Two years ago I pulled into the driveway at Baldy Hill. In the weeks previous, I had been shown a series of seemingly endless dreary range houses with nonexistent yards or flood damage or seriously lacking any sort of character. But when I pulled into that driveway and was greeted by this view, this light, I knew that I had found our new home.

We live simply here. There is no modern kitchen or central heat. The walls and floors aren’t straight or even. And our lives seem to have become an unending run of projects. But I saw the hidden beauty and knew that my family would be happy here. And we are.

Tonight we celebrate our second year with the last of the summer tomatoes, made into fresh salsa, along with our homegrown garlic and jalapenos from our neighbor. We’re still unpacking (sad but true, although we are ALMOST finished finally!) but we plan to stay awhile, as long as Baldy Hill will have us. 🙂

gratitude sunday

gratitude — the state of being grateful : thankfulness

On this Gratitude Sunday, I am grateful for:

  • Sunshine, on golden leaves
  • The love and support of my family, both the human and furry members
  • Perfectly ripe pears
  • Finding the courage to try something new and different today
  • And the start of new traditions as a result 🙂
  • Sushi dinner with my husband Thursday night
  • A Groupon deal featuring one of my favorite singers
  • Yarn, lots of yarn 🙂
  • Managing to find the balance this week
  • Rosemary olive oil bread
  • Making plans to see my best friend next month
  • A roof over my head, a meal when I’m hungry, a few pennies in my pocket, and a good shoulder to cry on
