gratitude sunday

gratitude — the state of being grateful : thankfulness

On this Gratitude Sunday, I am grateful for:

  • The fine weather the summer solstice brought with it — the garden really appreciates the warmer days!
  • Spending quiet time under the stars with James and the dozing pups
  • Knitting season is just around the corner — how can that be!?!
  • The bouquet of flowers on my desk, all found around growing — and not with much assistance from us — around Baldy Hill

  • The blueberries are turning blue and right on schedule. 🙂 I noted yesterday that a tiny box of organic blueberries costs almost seven dollars at our local supermarket, so all the more grateful for our few homegrown
  • A short week at my day job ahead
  • One of my favorite festivals is on this week in my hometown; if you are at all interested in quilting, check out this year’s winners here
  • James’ help this week to post some new listings in the shop; it was a big help, but we still have many more vintage knitting and crochet patterns to add

  • Itsy bitsy baby cucumbers that will make fine dill pickles in just a few weeks 🙂
  • The moment of spontaneity that I did not resist and ended with my new haircut that was exactly what I needed but hadn’t realized — thank you again, Jake!
  • The warm tub that is waiting to relieve my tired body
  • Finishing this week feeling relaxed, satisfied, and centered for the first time in awhile — very grateful for this indeed!

And what are you grateful for today?

gratitude — the state of being grateful : thankfulness

On this Gratitude Sunday, I am grateful for:

  • Quiet early-morning moments — just me, the birds, and the soft breathing of my sleeping family
  • Glimpses into the lives of the animals that share our patch of Earth, like watching the mama deer and her oh-so-young babe, walking still on unsteady legs, cross Baldy Hill into our field
  • Knowing when not to grab the camera and instead just take in fully moments like above
  • Finding a new great dining spot, with many veggie/vegan/awesome menu items — loved the grilled veg panini and the vegan cupcakes 🙂
  • Fireflies, suddenly everywhere in the night sky!
  • James’ homemade bagels, yum 🙂
  • Celebrating Father’s Day with my parents today. I have said it before and I’ll say it again — I kind of hit the lottery in the parent department. Kind, decent, patient, loving people now and always.
  • The garden is growing, wow is it growing! And we’ve been busy planting, weeding, and planting some more. I am always amazed to see those brand new shoots pushing their way up and out of the soil — so exciting!
  • Bargains galore at our local farm stand — the petunias above were practically given to me for nothing. And since we’re always so busy planting veg seeds that we forget about flowers, these beauties were a godsend.
  • A gin and tonic w/ that little slice of lime at the end of a long, but satisfying, week 🙂

the light

The past couple months have been turbulent for me emotionally as I come to terms with some parts of my life that I’ve been unhappy with for quite some time. I am grateful for the love and support of my husband, who always encourages me to stay true to myself and my ideals, because I know that no matter what, at the end of the day he’s got my back.

And as a result, I am finding myself suddenly having Anais Nin “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom” moments, where I can no longer keep quiet. About roadblocks in relationships. About problems at work. About some of the imbalances in my homelife. It’s been uncomfortable at times. It’s taking risks. It’s making changes. But it’s necessary if I am to grow and finally get that bud to blossom.  🙂

Promise me you will not spend so much time

treading water and trying to keep your head above the waves

that you forget, truly forget

how much you have always loved to swim.

gratitude — the state of being grateful : thankfulness

  • The week started out painfully hard, but thankfully got better with each passing day
  • Somehow finding the strength to say what I’ve needed to say for a long time; I feel like we might be moving forward
  • Reminders that keep us focused on what really matters
  • Fabulous chana saag curry Friday night
  • Making plans with a new friend

  • Our niece’s first recital — so glad we all could be there for her 🙂
  • Peonies! Roses! Beautiful flowers, beautiful fragrance, just a few steps from the house
  • Kisses from our Buster Bubba, the best loverboy pup you could ever want
  • Dinner with the family at Gary and Dell’s yesterday
  • First peas harvested from the garden!

  • And today James cut the first garlic scapes, yum!
  • Getting most of my paperwork in order (although the piles do seem to be growing again, err)
  • Finding some time for me on my yoga mat again; always like returning to a long-lost friend
  • Coconut cream pie
  • The warm bath that is waiting for me

And what are you grateful for today?
